User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars One book tells all
I am a weekend vineyardist. It’s just a hobby that I got into a couple of years ago. Of the 1/2 dozen or so books that I have read on this hobby, I would rank this one at the top. I think the book is well written, well organized and easy to understand. I especially like the section on trellising and pruning. It does not leave you guessing as to what to do next or leave you thinking that you need to buy another book.

1 Star From Vines to Wines
When I bought this, I thought there would be many pictures inside, as that would be so great for someone to make their one Wine. There were no pictures at all. I am putting it on my EBAY, as I can’t read. Three years ago, I fell off my new house and died. When I woke up, I could not read, write or talk. I was like a baby. I still can’t read, and many pictures would be great for me.

Amazon have always been great for me, even though this one book was not right for me. Maybe it would be great for someone who can read.

4 Stars Start to finish guide
An enjoyable and easy-to-follow book on growing grapes and making wine. Usually you would have to buy one book on grape growing and another on how to make wine, but Cox combines both in one volume. A worthwhile book even for those who make wine, but only think about growing vines.

5 Stars Review By Craig Justice, Founder, Blue Merle Vineyard & Winery
When we were planning our vineyard we needed all the help we could get. From Vines To Wines was one book kept by the bedside for constant reference during the planning and planting stage. (The other book was “Vineyard Simple.” The illustrated guide to pruning is exceptionally well done. Now that we’ve made it through year 1, I find myself going back to the book time and again. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in planting a vineyard. Craig Justice, Webmaster of Winemaker’s Journal and Founder, Blue Merle Vineyard & Winery

5 Stars Especially good for trellising and pruning
I gave this to my father and he was so excited because it focused a lot on building a good trellis with good illustrations and also good for prunning.

These are two things that lack in other books that i have bought him (and that I am starting to be interested in, too).

Of course the book covers all aspects of the grape and wine making process, but the trellising and prunning in more detail was very welcome.

Recommended on all aspects.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great magazine with lots of good ideas
This is a great magazine for giving you lots of ideas and inspiration for your garden railroad. It’s very well illustrated with top-quality photos and construction drawings. I have found that the articles are well written, and there’s a nice mix of things for everyone from the novice to the experienced garden railroader. There are also lots of good product reviews to help you with your buying decisions.

My only knock on the magazine is that they rarely discuss prices. The prices are listed for the products they review, but there is no discussion of how much any of the layouts cost to develop. I think this would be really helpful, especially to people like me who are just getting started out in the hobby. Other then that, it’s a great magazine.

5 Stars A great publication for beginners and experts.
We installed a garden railway last year, and this publication has proven to be extremely valuable. Not only has it helped us locate suppliers in our region, but it’s alerted us to special events and helped us with the specific details about how to build and maintain our railway.

5 Stars To Be or Not To Be a garden railroader
This is the perfect source for Garden Railways, I subscribed to this mag for a little over a year before I purchased my first outdoor railroad set. This magazine pays for itself by what you can save by shopping with its many advertisers. A great source of pricing those eBay auctions to see if you are really getting a good buy or not. The articles are very instructive and encouraging to me and my hobby. The Pictures are beautiful and clear. The professionalism and love of gardening and modelling shows on every page. If you wonder if this is the hobby for you and your family a subscription to Garden Railways will help you decide. Garden Railways give outlet for gardening, scale modeling buildings, bridges, people, rock gardening. This hobby will get you outside and allow you to play with trains with out your spouse complaining about your filling the house up with track. great place for your die cast cars, farm equipment and those Christmas buildings and people the rest of the year.

5 Stars A Must for Anyone Considering a Garden Railroad
If you’ve seen model trains running in a botannical garden, or someone’s backyard, and you’re wondering what it would take to get trains running in your back yard, or if you’re a beginning or intermediate garden railroader, you need this magazine. The product reviews and catalog listings alone will give you back the cost of your subscription quickly. And the articles will save you time and money, as they help you make choices and achieve your “dream” railroad. Even longtime hobbyists find the many great photographs inspiring and the “tips and tricks” helpful.

I’ve subscribed off and on for over a decade, and I’ve known many of the editors and the folks who submit articles for almost that long. As a resource for garden railroaders at all stages of development (from dreamers to empire-builders), this magazine is unequalled. Yes, there will occasionally be an issue that doesn’t seem to have many articles targeted to your specific needs, but there will also be issues that are “dead-on” for what you’re trying to accomplish this month.

Best of luck, as you plan, build, or run your garden railroad.
